Japanese stocks closed higher on October 27, 2026, with the Nikkei 225 rising 1.73% to 63,268.37 and the TOPIX gaining 0.61% to 3,997.37. The advance came as Anthropic’s proposed US initial public offering put artificial intelligence businesses in focus ahead of major US technology earnings.
Japanese stocks advance, with the Nikkei outperforming
Both Japanese benchmarks finished the session higher, although the Nikkei’s percentage gain was larger than the TOPIX’s. The closing figures establish a positive session across the two indexes, rather than a uniform gain for every Japanese stock.
The gains coincided with attention to Anthropic’s IPO filing and the outlook for AI-related businesses. That timing does not, by itself, establish how much the filing contributed to the market’s rise.
Anthropic filing is a step toward a listing, not a debut
Anthropic’s announcement of its proposed IPO confirms that it filed a Form S-1 registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The company intends to list Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol ANT.
The offering’s share count and price range have not yet been determined. The registration statement is not yet effective, and the company said the securities cannot be sold before it becomes effective. The filing therefore does not establish a completed offering or a final public-market valuation.
Alphabet and Microsoft are scheduled to release earnings during the week of October 26, providing the next company results to watch alongside the AI-related listing news.
