Novartis earnings rose in the third quarter of 2026, with revenue increasing 4% from a year earlier to $14.52 billion. The Swiss drugmaker raised its full-year profit outlook, even as a $1.9 billion impairment charge tied to a failed experimental drug weighed on net profit.
Novartis earnings and the impairment charge
Core operating profit rose 11% year over year to $6.04 billion in the quarter, Novartis reported on October 27. Strong sales of key drugs and improved profit margins supported the results.
The company also recorded an impairment charge related to del-desiran, an experimental drug that failed. The charge significantly affected net profit, although a net profit figure was not provided.
Full-year profit outlook improves
Novartis revised its full-year profit guidance to flat or modest growth, from a previous forecast of a decline. The outlook is a forecast for 2026, not a completed full-year result.
The company sells prescription medicines globally, focusing on areas including oncology, cardiovascular disease and immunology. The United States is its largest market.
