Jordanian security forces have arrested three people over the Jordan church attack that killed nine people and wounded 25 during a funeral procession, state television reported on October 26, 2026.

Jordan church attack arrests followed armed clash

Jordanian state television said the three people were apprehended in a joint security operation and were wounded during an armed clash. The broadcaster described them as responsible for the attack.

Gunmen stormed the compound of St George’s Church, a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hammoud in Karak governorate, on Friday, October 23, and opened fire, Jordanian authorities said.

Authorities investigate circumstances

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said authorities were examining the circumstances that lead young people toward extremism and would hold accountable anyone found to have been involved.

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan ordered three days of national mourning from Friday, with flags at half-mast over government and public institutions. Eight of the nine victims were laid to rest next to the church on Sunday.
