NYSE binary options are expected to begin trading within days, initially covering 12 securities, including shares of Apple, Nvidia and Tesla and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust. The planned contracts will pay $1 or nothing at expiration based on whether the underlying security finishes above or below a specified price.

How NYSE binary options will work

The binary return options are designed around a single outcome: whether a stock or exchange-traded fund finishes above or below the contract’s strike level. More securities are expected to be added over time.

The launch was expected within days as of October 27, 2026. Kevin Tyrrell, NYSE’s chief product officer, said growth in US options trading has included interest in newer ways and products to trade.

Earnings-linked contracts await approval

NYSE is also awaiting US Securities and Exchange Commission approval for a separate product tied to company performance metrics. Those binary KPI options would pay based on whether a reported result is above or below a specified threshold.

Potential measures include net sales, earnings per share, cloud computing revenue and vehicle production. The cash-settled, European-style contracts could be exercised only at expiration and would pay $1 or nothing.

Cboe Global Markets recently received approval for similar KPI-based contracts in partnership with Robinhood.
