Oil prices fell on October 27, 2026, as renewed diplomacy aimed at ending the US-Iran war raised hopes of easing threats to Middle East energy supplies. Brent crude futures for December delivery slipped 0.87% to $114.80 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate futures declined 0.86% to $100.88.
Oil prices retreat amid renewed talks
The decline followed October 26 talks in Tehran involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan and Iranian officials. The diplomatic effort offered a prospect of reduced regional tensions, rather than confirmation of a peace agreement or an end to supply risks.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry’s statement on the Tehran visit described its purpose as de-escalating tensions and encouraging dialogue and diplomatic solutions. That stated objective helps explain the initiative’s scope; it does not establish that the talks produced a breakthrough.
The four countries agreed to continue engagement to advance regional peace and security, Iranian state media said. Representatives from Qatar, which has helped mediate between Washington and Tehran, also visited the Iranian capital on October 25.
Continued attacks leave the outlook unsettled
The diplomatic push coincided with continuing military uncertainty. Iran-backed Houthi militants attacked Saudi Arabia over the weekend, underscoring that negotiations had not brought regional hostilities to a halt.
US President Donald Trump said in an October 25 interview that he was nearing a decision on whether to reach a deal with Iran or intensify military operations. Further attacks therefore remained an option even as diplomatic contacts continued.
The price pullback reflected hopes of de-escalation, not evidence that energy supplies had become secure. Continuing attacks and the unresolved US decision left the prospects for a lasting settlement uncertain.
