HDFC Bank shares edged up 0.09% to ₹688.70 on the NSE at 10:10 a.m. on October 27, 2026, as Anup Bagchi took charge as managing director and chief executive officer. He succeeded Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose tenure ended at the close of business on October 26.
HDFC Bank shares remain under pressure
The stock was slightly above Monday’s close of ₹688.05, with 65.10 lakh shares traded for ₹447.83 crore. The morning quote was an intraday snapshot, not a closing price.
The modest gain left a much larger decline intact: HDFC Bank was down 30.45% year to date, compared with a 12.86% fall in the Nifty 50. Its 52-week low was ₹681.90, recorded on September 11, 2026.
The leadership handover coincided with the small advance, but the trading figures do not establish that the appointment caused the move.
Bagchi begins a previously approved three-year term
The bank’s October 1 succession disclosure recorded Reserve Bank of India approval for Bagchi’s appointment and remuneration for three years from October 27, 2026. The board also approved the appointment that day, subject to shareholder approval under the Companies Act.
The disclosed term runs through October 26, 2029. The October 27 handover therefore implements the previously announced succession rather than introducing a newly selected chief executive.
Bagchi brings more than three decades of financial-services experience. His previous leadership roles include managing director and CEO of ICICI Securities, executive director of ICICI Bank, and managing director and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.
