SK Hynix dividend discussions are in focus after the chipmaker’s shares rose 7.14% to a two-week high on reports that it is considering a special payout of approximately 16 trillion won, or around $12 billion. The company has not confirmed a dividend plan.
SK Hynix dividend remains unconfirmed
The potential one-time payout could come from proceeds from the sale of SK Hynix’s stake in Japanese memory chipmaker Kioxia. SK Hynix invested in Kioxia in 2018 through a consortium led by Bain Capital.
The company is exploring shareholder return options, which may be disclosed alongside its third-quarter earnings report. A special dividend would require approval and is not a confirmed payout.
Shares outpace the broader market
SK Hynix’s 7.14% share price gain exceeded the KOSPI index’s 3.81% rise over the same period. The advance followed reports of the potential dividend, though the available information does not establish how much the reports contributed to the move.
SK Hynix has already announced plans for a 40 trillion won stock buyback and committed more than 50% of its free cash flow to shareholder returns from 2025 through 2027.
