The Duterte impeachment prosecution has challenged Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense team to produce a witness who can dispute bank balances cited in proceedings over alleged unexplained wealth. The challenge came on October 27, 2026, ahead of the defense’s expected presentation of evidence.

Duterte impeachment bank records

House prosecution adviser and spokesman Ace Barbers cited combined year-end bank balances of about 71 million Philippine pesos held by Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, in 2023. Duterte declared 14 million pesos under other personal properties in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth for that year.

The two figures cover different categories: the bank balances are combined holdings of Duterte and her husband, while the declaration is Duterte’s entry for other personal properties. Barbers asked whether the defense would present a witness to say the reported balances were wrong.

Allegations and trial schedule

Forensic accounting expert Alexander Cabrera identified at least 817.87 million pesos in alleged undeclared assets and unexplained wealth from 2022 through 2025. He testified that a broader calculation could reach 1.5 billion pesos, subject to adjustments.

The prosecution also presented Anti-Money Laundering Council records covering about 4.4 billion pesos in reported financial transactions from 2007 to 2025. The trial is set to resume on November 9, when the defense was expected to begin presenting evidence on Article II, the remaining charge involving alleged unexplained wealth.
