India-Russia trade has grown by more than 20% in 2026, Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said at a meeting in Delhi with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Volodin called for trade barriers to be removed and joint business ventures expanded.

India-Russia trade reached $47.7 billion through July

Bilateral trade totaled $47.7 billion in the first seven months of 2026, a 24.3% increase from the same period a year earlier, according to Indian Commerce Ministry data cited by Russian lender Sberbank.

India imported $44.9 billion of goods from Russia during those seven months, including $36 billion in crude oil. Indian exports to Russia came to $2.8 billion.

Volodin and Birla met on October 25, ahead of the October 26–27 BRICS Parliamentary Forum. Their discussions covered cooperation in trade, industry and agriculture, as well as parliamentary ties.

Volodin said lawmakers should provide legislative support for decisions made by the countries’ leaders. He credited Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with advancing bilateral relations.
