BIG FM news expansion plans include six additional channels for which the company has applied for permission from India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The application follows its acquisition of Sapphire Media’s existing news business, including India Daily 24x7.
BIG FM news channels await permission
The proposed channels are part of a plan to build a national network under BIG News Network, combining traditional broadcasting with digital platforms across regions and languages. Their launch remains subject to the required ministry permissions.
BIG FM plans to focus on hyperlocal and vernacular news, regional perspectives and short-form content for digital audiences. The company also wants to strengthen its presence in regional markets.
A broader media strategy
The news expansion forms part of ONE BIG WORLD, BIG FM’s planned AI-powered media ecosystem spanning radio, news, digital platforms, digital out-of-home media and live experiences.
CEO Ashit Kukian said the company aims to make news more accessible across platforms, languages and regional markets. The source did not disclose a launch date for the proposed channels.
