YWCA USA appointed Ruth T. Jones Nichols as interim chief executive officer effective October 26, 2026, as its board begins a national search for a permanent CEO.
YWCA USA prepares leadership transition
Jones Nichols will work closely with outgoing CEO Margaret Mitchell through October 30 to support the handoff. The board is conducting the permanent CEO search with Protégé Executive Search.
The board said the organization’s operations, programs, member services and partnerships will continue without interruption during the transition.
Jones Nichols brings nonprofit experience
Jones Nichols has more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit and social impact work. She previously served as executive director of YWCA South Hampton Roads and most recently was executive vice president of local and national programs at Local Initiatives and Support Corporation.
Her connection to the organization also dates to childhood, when she and her family found refuge in a YWCA shelter. YWCA USA says its network includes more than 190 community-based organizations providing services such as affordable housing and childcare.
