The Jakson solar plant planned for Andhra Pradesh will require an investment of ₹6,863 crore and produce silicon ingots, wafers and solar cells, the Indian manufacturing group plans. The first phase is targeted to begin commercial production in May 2028.
Jakson solar plant to be built in three phases
The integrated facility is planned for Meedivemula village in Kurnool district. At full capacity, it is intended to produce 10 gigawatts of silicon ingots and wafers and 5 gigawatts of solar cells.
The first phase is planned to have 3 gigawatts of ingot and wafer capacity and 3 gigawatts of cell capacity. The remaining capacity is scheduled to come on stream by 2030, and the project is expected to employ about 2,000 people.
Sources said Andhra Pradesh’s State Investment Promotion Board had recommended allotting 290 acres to Jakson Integrated Solar for the project. The recommendation is not a completed land allotment.
Expansion into earlier manufacturing stages
Jakson operates a 1.2-gigawatt solar module plant in Greater Noida. The proposed facility would take the Noida-based group further up the solar manufacturing value chain, into ingots, wafers and cells.
Andhra Pradesh’s 2024 Integrated Clean Energy Policy targets 20 gigawatts of solar manufacturing capacity across the value chain. State investment board papers show approved projects excluding Jakson’s account for 58.74 gigawatts of cell and module capacity and 48 gigawatts of ingot and wafer capacity.
