Gujarat power allocation from central generating stations has been increased by 1.6 gigawatts amid high demand, with Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir also receiving additional allocations, people familiar with the development said.
Key Takeaways
- Gujarat’s allocation includes short-term and long-term supplies, including power from a gas-fired station.
- Tamil Nadu received around 421 MW, while Jammu and Kashmir was allocated 329.4 MW for December to February.
Gujarat power allocation includes an extension
Gujarat’s peak demand was around 28.3 GW on October 24, 2026, roughly the same level seen through much of June. Demand from households and industry has been high.
Of the additional allocation, about 716.3 MW from NTPC’s Barh-I and Dadri-I stations is an extension of an existing allocation by one year, through March 2028. A further 330 MW from NTPC’s Farakka thermal units, currently allocated to Punjab, is assigned to Gujarat for November.
Long-term supplies include 164.4 MW from NEEPCO’s Assam gas-based station and 216.65 MW from NTPC’s Bongaigaon thermal station.
Allocations for Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir
Tamil Nadu’s roughly 421 MW allocation is from NTPC’s Bongaigaon plant, the Subansiri hydro projects and the Subansiri Lower project. The long-term power will be supplied proportionally as the units are commissioned.
Jammu and Kashmir’s 329.4 MW allocation comes from power relinquished by Bihar at Farakka stages I and II, for December to February. The power ministry had not responded to a request for comment by publication.
