India cybersecurity officials have flagged an eMudhra digital certificate lapse and critical PHP software vulnerabilities, while the government has ordered an investigation into the certificate provider’s key generation failure.
India cybersecurity response
India’s computer emergency response team, CERT-In, flagged both incidents. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said eMudhra’s domestic digital signature certificates were unaffected and ordered a probe into the key generation failure.
The certificate lapse occurred in the week before October 26, 2026. The available details do not specify which certificates were affected or when the investigation will conclude.

Banks and government departments audited their systems for vulnerabilities and took action intended to prevent breaches. Critical vulnerabilities in PHP, a programming language used on the internet, are also being addressed.
The incidents touch systems relevant to online commerce and banking. The information available does not establish that either incident caused a breach.
