The Maharashtra land transfer fee on qualifying renewable energy project land moved from a parent company to its subsidiary has been waived, state Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced on October 26, 2026.

Maharashtra land transfer fee waiver and its scope

The waiver removes a charge equal to 25% of the land’s market value, calculated using ready reckoner rates. The fee was payable to the district collector when land acquired for industrial use was transferred.

Renewable energy companies often transfer land to separate subsidiaries to secure bank loans or attract foreign investors. The revenue department said these internal transfers had attracted the fee, increasing costs and potentially delaying projects.

The decision followed an August 18 state cabinet resolution and was taken on the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the department said.

Conditions for the exemption

To qualify, the land must be used exclusively to develop renewable energy projects. If it is later used for residential, commercial or other purposes, or sold to a third party, the exemption will be cancelled immediately.

In those cases, the full transfer fee will be recovered with interest. The department said the measure is expected to ease the financial burden on solar, wind and other renewable energy projects.
