The Kerala cooperative airline project has received state government permission to launch flight services, Chief Minister V D Satheesan said on October 25, 2026.

Kerala cooperative airline plans

The permission was granted to the Kerala Civil Aviation Development Cooperative Society. Satheesan said C N Vijayakrishnan, chairman of the MVR Cancer Centre, would spearhead the project.

A team involved in the cancer centre and the Calicut City Service Cooperative Society will work with Vijayakrishnan to start the airline, the chief minister said. He described the venture as a first for India’s cooperative sector.

Satheesan announced the permission while inaugurating the Calicut City Service Cooperative Society’s silver jubilee celebrations. The announcement did not specify a launch date, routes or fares.

Deposit assurance

At the same event, Satheesan said the government would guarantee deposits made in the cooperative sector. He said cooperative-bank depositors should receive the same assurance as people investing in nationalised and scheduled banks.

He also warned that the government would not allow corruption in cooperative societies and said those who misappropriate depositors’ money should be jailed.
