Xiong’an satellite production is expanding in China’s Hebei province, where manufacturer Hongqing says its automated line can assemble a satellite in roughly 30 hours. Its first locally manufactured satellite entered orbit in August 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Hongqing says its facility has demonstrated annual capacity for more than 100 flat-panel satellites.
  • The company received an 80-million-yuan investment from a local science and technology innovation fund.
  • Other companies in Xiong’an are preparing orbital-transfer vehicles and satellite components.

Xiong’an satellite production moves to an automated line

Hongqing registered, built its facility, began production and rolled out its first satellite in 2025, said Sun Dezhi, deputy general manager of its manufacturing center. The 12,000-square-meter facility has demonstrated capacity for more than 100 flat-panel satellites a year, Sun said.

The company says the roughly 30-hour assembly process compares with around half a month using traditional methods. It also reports production cycles more than 80% shorter than those under traditional methods.

The facility produced Xiong’an-1, also known as Honghu-03, the first satellite manufactured in the new area. It launched on a Zhuque-3 Y2 rocket on August 19, 2026, and entered its designated orbit with systems operating normally.

Suppliers prepare additional capacity

Xiong’an’s industrial base hosts nearly 70 aerospace information companies, with shared manufacturing and testing facilities under construction. The cluster brings satellite manufacturers and suppliers closer to testing services and production partners.

Hebei Xiong’an FutureSpace Technology has completed assembly of its first FX-1 orbital-transfer vehicle and is preparing it for a maiden flight. The company plans annual capacity of 60 FX Series vehicles, which are designed to move satellites from their initial orbits to their intended positions.

Final Frontier (Xiong’an) Technology has also begun trial production at a flexible component line designed to make up to 1,500 units a month once fully operational. The company had expected commissioning to be completed by the end of September; the source did not confirm whether that happened.

Local support for manufacturing

Hongqing received an 80-million-yuan investment from a local science and technology innovation fund. Sun said local departments also assisted with registration, banking, factory selection, staff relocation and recruitment.

Next milestone

FutureSpace is preparing FX-1 for its maiden flight; no launch date was specified.
