Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to buy local products during the festive season, saying their purchases could support artisans, manufacturers and the country’s small-business sector.
Buy local appeal in monthly address
Speaking in his monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcast on October 25, 2026, Modi asked shoppers to prioritize products made by local artisans when buying for family and loved ones. He said purchases would boost artisans’ morale and strengthen the Vocal for Local movement.
The prime minister linked the appeal to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India. His remarks were a call to consumers rather than an announcement of a new purchasing requirement.
Other themes in the broadcast
In the 139th edition of the program, Modi also emphasized cleanliness during festivals, including Diwali and Chhath, when prayers are performed near water bodies.
He paid tribute to Rishi Valmiki ahead of Valmiki Jayanti on October 26 and mentioned Ayodhya’s Ram temple.
