Pakistan Afghanistan tensions remained high as Islamabad on October 24, 2026, called on the Taliban government in Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan territory to plan or launch attacks against Pakistan.

Pakistan Afghanistan tensions and competing claims

Pakistan rejected Kabul’s assertion that Islamabad was blaming Afghanistan for its own security failures. In a separate statement on X, Pakistan’s Information Ministry also denied allegations that it was arming Afghans to fight the Taliban or recruiting them to fight insurgents opposed to Pakistan.

Islamabad has accused Kabul of sheltering the Pakistani Taliban, or TTP, and the Baloch Liberation Army, or BLA. Pakistan says members of both groups have found sanctuary in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power there in 2021. Kabul denies the allegation.

Security operations and cross-border violence

The dispute comes amid border clashes and Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan. Pakistan is conducting multiple operations against militants near the border; its Information Ministry said those measures target militant threats rather than the Afghan people.

Pakistani authorities said more than 2,800 militant attacks since January 2026 had killed 3,000 people across the country, mainly in the northwest and Balochistan province. In September, Afghanistan said its forces killed 28 fighters and captured 32 others, including alleged Islamic State members said to have crossed from Pakistan.
