Torrent semaglutide could launch in Brazil within six to nine months, Managing Director Aman Mehta said in October 2026. The drugmaker has so far launched the medicine only in India, where it is working to regain injectable market share after a supply disruption.
Key Takeaways
- Mehta described the Brazil launch window as an optimistic expectation, not a confirmed launch date.
- Brazil revenue rose 38% year over year to ₹440 crore in the second quarter of fiscal 2027.
- Torrent restored Indian supplies by September after a disruption that lasted nearly two months.
Torrent semaglutide expansion plans
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to treat Type 2 diabetes and, in certain formulations, obesity. Mehta told investors during an earnings call that Torrent was looking to expand into Brazil after its launch in India.
He said a large local player’s entry into Brazil’s generic semaglutide market had accelerated growth over the preceding three months. Torrent has 53 products under review with Brazil’s health regulator, ANVISA; the available information does not specify whether semaglutide is among them.
Brazil sales and management outlook
In the September quarter, Brazil revenue rose 38% year over year to ₹440 crore. Revenue increased 20% in constant-currency terms to 236 million Brazilian reais.
For the first half of fiscal 2027, Brazil revenue rose 34% to ₹717 crore, while constant-currency revenue increased 13% to 383 million reais. Mehta said he expects continued growth in the mid-teens, citing momentum from new launches and other businesses. That is management’s outlook, not a reported result.
India supplies restored
Torrent brought on a new manufacturing partner and restored Indian semaglutide supplies by September after a disruption kept it out of the market for nearly two months. Mehta said the interruption cost the company some injectable market share, but that the relaunch and subsequent sales recovery gave it confidence it could recover much of the loss.
He said Torrent had a combined 32% share of the oral and injectable semaglutide market in the second quarter, based on Pharmatrac data, and more than 90% of the oral segment among generic players.
