  • Polo Hotels Group’s CEO said most employees at the hotel were local.

Polo Hotel Kohima adds rooms and dining

The hotel overlooks Kohima and the surrounding valley, with views from guest rooms and an infinity pool. Its interiors incorporate tribal artwork and woven Naga textiles, while the roof of its Mithun block draws on the design of traditional morungs, or community spaces.

Its Tring Tring all-day diner is the group’s third outlet, following locations in Shillong and Kolkata. Alongside Indian, Western and other cuisines, it offers a seven-course Naga menu.

The property provides accommodation for visitors to the Hornbill Festival, held annually in December, and can arrange visits to Kohima’s World War II heritage sites.

Local employment and tourism plans

Polo Hotels Group CEO and whole-time director Deval Tibrewalla said most of the property’s employees were locals. He also said the hotel would source products from local weavers, artists, farmers and carpenters.

Nagaland Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along said the state government and Tourism Department would partner with the group. Governor Yadav said hospitality infrastructure could help the state realize its tourism potential and create livelihood opportunities.

Polo Hotels Group was founded in Shillong in 1991 and has properties in Meghalaya, Tripura and Kolkata. The Kohima opening extends its portfolio into Nagaland.
