The NCERT AI module gives students in classes 9 to 12 a 20-hour introduction to artificial intelligence and computational thinking. Released by India’s National Council of Educational Research and Training, it is designed for learners with no prior knowledge of AI.

What the NCERT AI module covers

The activity-based module introduces computational thinking as a systematic approach to solving problems. It also covers everyday AI applications, how machines learn from examples, and the possibilities and limitations of AI systems.

Students will explore how to detect deepfakes and critically verify AI-generated information. Data privacy, misinformation, fairness and digital safety are also part of the curriculum.

Activities designed for different school settings

NCERT developed the module in consultation with IIT Madras and IIT Jodhpur. It uses discussions, practical exercises, experimentation and reflection to help students become responsible users and evaluators of AI.

The council said activities can be conducted with or without digital devices, allowing participation across different school contexts.
