Operation Trident uncovered ₹100 crore worth of hawala transactions and led to the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts during a crackdown on an international narcotics network, India’s Home Minister Amit Shah said on October 24, 2026.
Operation Trident spanned three states
Agencies conducted simultaneous operations at 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on October 23, Shah said. Eighteen people were arrested, and properties worth ₹17.82 crore were attached.
Authorities also seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash, Shah said. He congratulated the central agencies and police forces from the three states involved in the operation.
Cross-border network
Shah said the network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through what he called the Death Triangle Corridor.
The minister linked the operation to India’s stated goal of eradicating drug networks by December 31, 2029. That date is a government objective, not a confirmed operational milestone.
