Micron Idaho investments will provide more than $67 million for public transportation, housing and children’s savings accounts, the semiconductor company announced on Oct. 27, 2026. The new commitments build on approximately $75 million Micron says it has contributed to Idaho communities since 2023.

Key Takeaways

  • Micron plans to invest about $11.6 million in regional transit over five years.
  • A $10.5 million housing commitment includes rental homes and down-payment assistance.
  • The company expects to deposit more than $45 million into accounts for over 181,000 children in five Idaho counties.

Micron Idaho investments target transit expansion

The approximately $11.6 million transit investment will help Valley Regional Transit establish a bus route connecting Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian and Boise. It will also expand on-demand service near Micron’s Boise campus and add Park & Ride locations across the Treasure Valley.

Valley Regional Transit CEO Elaine Clegg said riders should see Micron-supported vehicles and services on the road in early 2027. Micron is also working with local agencies on potential transportation expansions and studying improvements along Interstate 84.

Housing funding covers rentals and home purchases

Micron’s $10.5 million housing commitment includes $2.5 million in gap funding for the Lusk District Redevelopment Project in Boise. The project is advancing plans for more than 300 affordable housing units, with geothermal energy providing heat to hundreds of homes.

The remaining $8 million supports a partnership with LEAP Housing. Half is allocated to 30 two- and three-bedroom rental homes in Mountain Home, while the other half will support down-payment assistance for up to 200 first-time homebuyers across Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore and Gem counties.

Savings deposits form the largest commitment

Micron expects to deposit more than $45 million into over 181,000 Trump Accounts, also known as 530A Accounts, for children under 18 in the same five counties.

The Idaho deposits are part of a $250 million commitment Micron announced in June to provide one-time $250 seed deposits for children with Trump Accounts in locations where the company operates. The announcement describes expected deposits, not completed payments.

Micron established its Community Investment Framework in 2023 alongside Idaho Gov. Brad Little and Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. The company says its earlier contributions have supported more than 100 grants, investments and partnerships in areas including roads, education, housing and childcare.

Next milestone

Valley Regional Transit expects Micron-supported vehicles and services to reach the road in early 2027.
