India’s central government has pledged semiconductor support for Andhra Pradesh projects, including research, training and capacity building, as the state seeks to become a global hub for chip design.
Semiconductor support and AI cooperation
Union Minister for Railways and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw made the assurance during an October 24, 2026 meeting in Delhi with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Vaishnaw also assured cooperation with the state’s plans for artificial intelligence development and infrastructure. No funding amount or timetable for the semiconductor or AI initiatives was specified.
Rail links and proposed train services
Vaishnaw approved the required rail connectivity for nine ports to improve freight movement to inland areas. Naidu also sought faster progress on railway projects, approval of detailed project reports for pending works and the release of funds.
The minister agreed to Naidu’s proposals for a sleeper Vande Bharat service from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru via Tirupati and a daytime seated service between Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. No start dates were specified.
Naidu requested a high-speed rail corridor between Amaravati and Visakhapatnam. The central government had already agreed to establish major coaching terminals in both cities.
