Nigel Durham, the former Saxon drummer who played on the band’s 1988 album Destiny, has died at 61. Saxon confirmed his death on October 24, 2026, without disclosing a cause.

Nigel Durham addressed false reports in July

False reports of Durham’s death circulated online in April 2026. In a Facebook post dated July 14, he rejected the rumors, writing that he was “still alive & kickin.”

The Metal Archives also recorded the earlier reports as an internet prank. Saxon’s October announcement confirmed his death months after Durham’s response.

Saxon career and later bands

Durham played with British heavy metal band Saxon from 1987 to 1988 and appeared on Destiny. He later played with Son of a Bitch and Oliver/Dawson Saxon, and joined hard rock band Morpheus Rising in 2013.

In its statement, Saxon described Durham as a former member of the “Saxon family” and sent its thoughts to his wife, Lauretta, daughter Gemma, grandchildren and other relatives.
