Thousands of Israelis gathered at a Tel Aviv rally on October 24, 2026, demanding an independent commission of inquiry into failures surrounding the Hamas-led attack of October 7, 2023. The demonstration came three days before Israel’s national election.
Tel Aviv rally calls for accountability
The October Council, which represents families and friends of victims and survivors of the attack, organized the gathering at Hostages Square. Opposition leaders attended.
Demonstrators called for political change and accountability from government leaders. They expressed concern that the government in power at the time of the attack was seeking another term.
First election since the attack
The October 27 election will be Israel’s first since the attack, which triggered the war in Gaza and a broader regional conflict. About 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage in the attack, according to Israeli figures.
Polls have indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on course to lose the election, although Israel’s fragmented political system leaves the outcome uncertain.
