Deep Sea Minerals appointed Raj Matthew as chief financial officer effective October 27, 2026, as the seabed mineral exploration company pursues potential opportunities in polymetallic nodules.

Key Takeaways

  • Matthew has more than 25 years of financial leadership experience, according to the company.
  • Steven Nguyen will move from CFO to vice president of finance and remain a director.
  • The company has submitted an amended application for a Pacific Ocean exploration licence, but approval is not assured.

Deep Sea Minerals changes finance leadership

Matthew previously served as CFO of Nasdaq-listed networking hardware company Asante Technologies, where he worked on restructuring, capital raising and strategic transactions, Deep Sea Minerals said.

He is also audit committee chairman at Nasdaq-listed K2 Capital Acquisition Corp. His earlier roles include finance director at Seagate Technology and CFO positions at PrimeBlock, RiskSense, Narus and Vivato Networks.

Chief Executive James Deckelman said Matthew’s experience in financial reporting, capital raising and transactions would support the company’s corporate and exploration priorities.

Exploration plans remain subject to approvals

Deep Sea Minerals said it has begun early-stage engagement with selected governments and regulators in the Pacific region about potential exploration initiatives, subject to applicable legal and environmental frameworks.

The company submitted an amended application on July 17, 2026, for an exploration licence covering a defined area of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone. It cautioned that the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration may not approve the application or issue a licence on acceptable terms, or at all.
