Ossium Health CEO and co-founder Kevin Caldwell has won a 2026 Biocom Catalyst Award for his work building a bone marrow bank using cells recovered from deceased organ donors.

Key Takeaways

  • Caldwell is one of 13 recipients of the 2026 awards, which recognize emerging life sciences leaders under 40.
  • Ossium says it has supplied bone marrow for 29 transplants and plans a US commercial launch in early 2027.

Ossium Health’s bone marrow program

Founded in 2016, Ossium collects and banks bone marrow from deceased organ donors for use in stem cell therapies. The company says Caldwell helped bring together organ recovery teams, scientists, federal agencies and transplant physicians to develop the program.

Ossium said some of the bone marrow it supplied for the 29 transplants was delivered within 48 hours of a physician’s request. It also said every recipient had engrafted and that no clinically significant adverse events attributable to the product had been reported.

Biocom recognizes emerging leaders

The Catalyst Awards, presented by California life sciences membership association Biocom, are in their 11th year. The 2026 recipients include people working in areas such as cell therapies, gene editing and AI-designed drugs.

In the Oct. 27 announcement, Caldwell said the recognition meant a great deal to him and Ossium. He said it signaled that banked bone marrow was becoming part of the conversation about medicine’s future.

Next milestone

Ossium plans to launch commercially in the United States in early 2027, with global expansion to follow.
