The 3SBio lung cancer trial reported longer median progression-free survival for patients receiving tivunatamig with chemotherapy than for those on a control regimen, according to Phase II follow-up data presented at the 2026 European Society for Medical Oncology Congress.
Key Takeaways
- The study enrolled 261 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer in China.
- Pfizer holds development and commercialization rights to the drug outside China, as well as an option for the Chinese market.
3SBio lung cancer trial results
The updated Phase II study results, presented on October 26, covered patients receiving first-line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The analysis used data available through August 6, 2026.
Median progression-free survival measures the length of time before a patient’s cancer worsens or the patient dies. The control groups received tislelizumab with chemotherapy.
Confirmed objective response rates, which measure the proportion of patients whose tumors shrank, were 80.7% for tivunatamig with carboplatin and paclitaxel in squamous disease, versus 67.7% in the control group. In non-squamous disease, the rates were 77.5% with tivunatamig, carboplatin and pemetrexed and 44.7% in the control group.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Squamous lung cancer | Median progression-free survival: 13.6 months with tivunatamig and chemotherapy, versus 8.3 months in the control group. |
| Non-squamous lung cancer | Median progression-free survival: 13.8 months with tivunatamig and chemotherapy, versus 9.7 months in the control group. |
Safety and Pfizer partnership
3SBio said the incidence of severe treatment-related adverse events with tivunatamig and platinum-based chemotherapy was broadly comparable to that of the tislelizumab control group. It reported no new treatment-related deaths in the tivunatamig group since an earlier data disclosure.
3SBio developed the PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody, also known as SSGJ-707. Its 2025 agreements with Pfizer included a $1.4 billion upfront payment and a $100 million equity investment, with a total potential transaction value exceeding $6 billion.
Multiple global Phase III studies of tivunatamig are underway. The Phase II results require further validation in those studies.
