BASF earnings fell in the third quarter of 2026, even as higher prices and volumes lifted sales and the chemicals company raised its full-year forecast for EBITDA before special items.

BASF earnings and quarterly sales

Net income declined to €155 million from €172 million a year earlier, BASF said on October 28. Earnings per share fell to €0.18 from €0.19, while earnings per share adjusted for special items and amortization of intangible assets rose to €0.72 from €0.52.

Sales increased 14% to €16.4 billion, driven mainly by higher prices and slightly higher volumes. EBITDA before special items rose 15% to €1.6 billion, with all core businesses contributing to the increase, BASF said in its third-quarter results announcement.

Reported EBITDA was €1.2 billion, unchanged from a year earlier, and included €437 million in negative special items. Those items included restructuring expenses, primarily at Ludwigshafen, and a legal settlement. Depreciation and amortization included a €318 million impairment in the Monomers division.

Full-year forecast moves higher

BASF now expects 2026 EBITDA before special items of €7.4 billion to €7.8 billion, compared with its previous forecast of €6.9 billion to €7.7 billion. The company raised both ends of the range, with a larger increase at the lower end.

Chairman Markus Kamieth said the year-to-date performance of BASF’s core businesses supported the revised forecast. The company left its free cash flow forecast unchanged at €1.5 billion to €2.3 billion.
