The crypto fraud trial of Aiden Pleterski, the self-described Canadian “crypto king,” is set to go to a jury after closing arguments. Jurors are expected to begin deliberations on October 29, 2026, after final instructions from Justice Shaun Nakatsuru.
Crypto fraud trial centers on alleged $30 million scheme
Pleterski is accused of defrauding his social media followers of about $30 million between 2021 and 2022 in an alleged scheme involving digital assets. He was charged with fraud in 2024 and chose to represent himself at trial.
Pleterski has pleaded not guilty and said he is innocent. The allegations have not been established by a verdict.
What happens after closing arguments
The jury is due to receive Nakatsuru’s final instructions before beginning deliberations. If Pleterski is found guilty, the fraud charge could carry a prison sentence of up to 14 years.
Canada’s Criminal Code fraud provision sets a maximum 14-year term for an indictable fraud offence where the value of the subject matter exceeds $5,000. The provision describes the law; it does not establish the outcome of Pleterski’s case.
