Spotify AI remix tools could launch in the first quarter of 2027, with an unveiling potentially timed around February’s Grammy Awards. The company is reportedly considering charging subscribers an additional $4 to $5 a month.

How the Spotify AI remix tool would work

Spotify’s licensing agreement with Believe covers an upcoming AI-powered tool for fan-made remixes and covers. Spotify says it is designed as a paid add-on for Premium subscribers, with streams generating royalties for participating artists and rights holders behind the original works.

The tool is intended for reinterpretations of existing songs rather than entirely new works. Examples of the reported plans include turning a folk song into a dance track or making one artist appear to cover another’s music.

Spotify’s October 20 announcement did not specify a launch date or price. Believe and TuneCore artists must opt in to be considered for AI programs and then decide whether to participate in the Spotify partnership.

Licensing and launch plans

Spotify has also struck licensing deals with Universal Music Group and independent label group Merlin, while negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are reportedly continuing.

Under the reported plan, plays of fan-created remixes would count toward the original songs in Spotify’s charts. The proposed launch timing and monthly price remain unconfirmed.
