Tax return deadline for certain cases

The Central Board of Direct Taxes extended the income tax return filing deadline for certain cases for assessment year 2026–27 from October 31 to November 21, 2026. Taxpayers should check whether their category is covered; the extension does not apply to everyone.

For the relevant cases, the tax audit report deadline was also extended, from September 30 to October 21, 2026.

Life certificates due by November 30

Central and state government pensioners must submit a life certificate each year to continue receiving their pensions. Submission for pensioners below age 80 begins on November 1, 2026; those aged 80 and above have been able to submit since October 1 and can continue to do so.

Eligible pensioners must submit their certificates by November 30. Missing the deadline could stall pension payments.
