Drift exploiter transfers complicate tracing
Wednesday’s transfer involved 18,800 ETH, valued at about $46 million. It followed $61 million in Ether sent to Tornado Cash on Tuesday, according to blockchain data tracker Onchain Lens.
Moving the assets through the mixer makes the funds harder to trace. The combined $109 million represents nearly 37% of the losses reported by the Solana-based decentralized exchange.
The transfers did not empty the wallets associated with the exploiter. Arkham data showed that exploiter-labelled wallets retained 56,569 ETH, worth roughly $138 million, after Wednesday’s activity.
Recovery claims opened earlier this month
Drift reported about $295 million in losses from the April 1 attack. Its security consultant, Mandiant, attributed the hack to a North Korean threat group. DefiLlama ranks it as the third-largest crypto hack of the year.
On Oct. 1, Drift opened claims and redemptions for DFX recovery tokens. The tokens give affected users a claim on a recovery pool that launched with about $3.1 million and receives exchange revenue and recovered funds.
