Six Astranis satellites are scheduled to launch aboard a dedicated SpaceX Falcon 9 mission in 2028 under an expanded agreement announced on October 26, 2026. The planned mission would deploy MicroGEO communications satellites into geostationary orbit and support Astranis’ goal of expanding its fleet to 16.

Astranis satellites target a 16-unit fleet

The agreement reserves a dedicated Falcon 9 launch for the six-satellite production block, using the rocket’s full payload capacity. The projected 16-satellite fleet includes spacecraft from earlier production runs; it is a future target, not the number currently operating.

Astranis has lined up initial customers for the new production block, although their identities were not disclosed. Those commitments provide a commercial basis for the expansion, but the announcement does not establish that all six satellites have been sold.

The launch remains scheduled for 2028. Securing the mission is a step toward deployment, rather than confirmation that the additional satellites have reached orbit or begun providing service.

Small spacecraft built for dedicated connectivity

Astranis’ MicroGEO satellite platform is designed around small geostationary spacecraft offering dedicated satellite broadband. The company describes communications missions for both commercial and government customers, including connectivity for remote areas.

The planned six-satellite mission would expand that communications infrastructure. The spacecraft product information explains Astranis’ technology, but does not specify which MicroGEO models will fly on the dedicated 2028 launch.
