Tobii earnings for the third quarter of 2026 showed improving operating performance but continued financing pressure. In its October 22 results discussion, the eye-tracking company reported net sales of SEK 114 million, down 11%, and a SEK 217 million operating loss after a large AutoSense impairment. Cash stood at SEK 29 million, with a credit facility maturing in December and substantial payments due in 2027.

Key Takeaways

  • Sales rose 16% after management’s adjustments for exceptional items, despite the reported decline.
  • A SEK 180 million non-cash AutoSense impairment weighed on operating profit as the unit’s strategic review continued.
  • Management is evaluating financing alternatives while targeting positive operating cash flow for full-year 2027.

Tobii earnings separate cost progress from reported losses

Reported sales fell 11%, while organic sales declined 12%. Chief Executive Fadi Faron said sales increased 16% after adjusting for the Dynavox pre-purchase and other extraordinary items. That adjusted measure therefore presents a different picture from the reported revenue decline.

EBITDA rose to SEK 18 million from SEK 11 million. Operating expenses excluding depreciation fell by SEK 29 million year over year, and Product & Solutions and Integrations together generated SEK 4 million in operating profit. Those two businesses represented 90% of group sales.

Cash generation also improved but remained insufficient to make the group self-financing. Free cash flow was negative SEK 6 million, compared with negative SEK 29 million previously. Operating cash flow before working-capital changes was positive SEK 16 million.

AutoSense review remains open after impairment

AutoSense, whose driver and occupant monitoring technology is designed for vehicle interiors, recorded quarterly revenue of SEK 12 million. Tobii’s description of its in-cabin sensing technology explains the business’s focus on monitoring drivers and occupants; it does not establish the unit’s financial performance.

The SEK 180 million impairment was non-cash, distinguishing it from the payments putting pressure on liquidity. Nevertheless, Faron said AutoSense’s revenue base could not yet sustain its historical level of costs and investment.

Faron said all strategic options remained open and declined to identify a divestment as the most likely outcome. Management is reducing costs while evaluating alternatives amid market uncertainty.

Financing needs come before the 2027 cash-flow target

Tobii faces a risk of insufficient financing over the next 12 months. Faron said the board, management and principal shareholders were evaluating ways to strengthen the balance sheet, including different forms of equity financing. No completed financing arrangement was announced in the supplied earnings discussion.

The feasibility and terms of financing depend partly on negotiations with Xperi over remaining AutoSense acquisition payments. Acting Chief Financial Officer Martin Johansson identified the first promissory-note installment as USD 10 million plus interest, equivalent to roughly SEK 120 million.

Faron confirmed that the target of positive operating cash flow applies to full-year 2027 and includes all three current business units. It remains a management target, not an achieved result. New financial targets are to be presented once the financial platform has been secured.

Next milestone

The next scheduled financing milestone is the credit facility’s mid-December maturity, ahead of the tax and acquisition-payment obligations in 2027.
