Synthetik Insurance Technologies has extended its CityScape collaboration with Marsh Re for a further three years. The October 2026 renewal covers multi-peril consultancy services and Marsh Re’s continued use of the portfolio-level explosion-modelling tool to assess property damage and financial losses.

What the CityScape collaboration covers

Marsh Re will continue using CityScape to help clients understand concentrations of terrorism and political violence exposure, assess probable maximum loss, and support the structuring and placement of reinsurance programmes.

CityScape was developed by Synthetik in collaboration with Marsh Re. The renewal continues both the advisory relationship and access to the modelling technology, rather than marking the launch of a new product.

Stephen Hudson, Marsh Re’s Head of Political Violence Advisory, said clients need a “clear, defensible view of their terrorism exposures,” particularly in major cities where accumulations can be significant.

How the tool models urban blast losses

Synthetik’s description of CityScape’s urban blast modelling explains how the platform uses its BlastFoam solver and three-dimensional building data to model explosive threats. It combines computed pressure histories with engineering-based vulnerability curves to estimate damage and financial losses across property portfolios.

The approach is designed to account for surrounding buildings and street layouts, which shape blast effects in dense urban areas. A browser-based interface allows users to run analyses without specialist engineering software.

Synthetik CEO Brian Watson said simplified approaches can miss how blasts behave around real buildings and streets, and that continued work with Marsh Re helps refine CityScape for the reinsurance market.
