Lockton claims leadership has appointed Russell Smith as its US property and casualty claims leader. The New York-based executive will work to strengthen and connect the insurance broker’s claims and loss control capabilities across several areas of coverage.
Lockton claims role and responsibilities
Smith’s remit covers casualty, property, environmental and product recall claims, among other areas. He will work with leaders across Lockton to develop technical capabilities, carrier relationships and support for complex claims.
He will report to Vince Gaffigan, Lockton’s US casualty and market strategy leader. Gaffigan said the role reflects the firm’s effort to build a more connected claims and loss control organization.
Experience at Sompo and Chubb
Smith most recently served as senior vice president and head of casualty at Sompo. Before that, he spent nearly two decades in claims executive roles at Chubb and ACE, including as casualty chief technical officer and head of casualty claims.
His experience spans workers’ compensation, construction, professional liability, claims operations and large-loss management. He began his career as a defense attorney.
