Hindustan Zinc production rose in the September 2026 quarter, with mined and refined metal output increasing year on year as the company reported lower zinc production costs. Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar credited long-term investments in capacity, efficiency and technology for the progress.

Hindustan Zinc production and profit increase

Mined metal production rose 5% from a year earlier to 271,000 tonnes in the second quarter of FY27. Refined metal output increased 7% to 264,000 tonnes, while silver production grew 20% to 173 tonnes.

Net profit more than tripled to ₹6,412 crore. Zinc production costs, excluding royalty, fell 29% to $703 per tonne.

In a letter to shareholders, Hebbar said the Debari roaster and projects to remove production bottlenecks at Chanderiya and Dariba had helped increase refined output and improve efficiency.

Early-stage move into critical minerals

During the quarter, Hindustan Zinc secured a letter of intent for the Gundlupet Rare Earth Elements and Yttrium Block in Karnataka. The development is at an early stage and expands the company’s presence in critical minerals.

The company is also deploying remotely operated mining equipment, automation, AI-led process optimisation and predictive maintenance across its operations. Hebbar said the company would continue to focus on growth projects, productivity and critical minerals.
