Energy supply chains need greater resilience as global disruptions threaten reliable and affordable supplies, India's Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik said at a Singapore summit on October 26, 2026.
Key Takeaways
- Naik called for countries to diversify supply sources and strengthen the energy value chain.
- He said disruptions to mines, shipping routes and equipment manufacturing could affect energy systems far away.
Energy supply chains face wider risks
Speaking at Singapore International Energy Week, Naik said energy security was linked to economic progress, industrial competitiveness and social advancement. He called for countries to anticipate risks as they plan investments and respond to changing energy demand.
The minister said the challenge extended beyond producing more energy: systems also needed to deliver it efficiently, reliably and affordably while adapting to new technologies and consumption patterns.
Disruptions at mineral mines, critical shipping routes, semiconductor facilities or transformer manufacturers could affect communities thousands of kilometres away, he said.
Cooperation and different national pathways
Naik called for national preparedness and international cooperation, while saying global efforts should recognise differences in countries' resources, development stages, economic priorities and technological capabilities.
He met Singapore Minister of State Gan Siow Huang, International Renewable Energy Agency Director General Francesco La Camera, and Bhutan's Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Sonam Tashi.
Next milestone
Naik is scheduled to visit Sembcorp's Banyan Energy Storage System plant and Keppel Seghers' waste-to-energy plant at Tuas on October 28, before returning to India.
