Key Takeaways

  • Sharma will work with banks, nonbank lenders, insurers and other financial-services partners from Mumbai.
  • The appointment follows Smallest AI’s $21 million funding round announced in July 2026.
  • Sharma was most recently vice president of credit and strategy at CashFlo.

Smallest AI targets financial-services customers

Announced on October 26, 2026, the appointment gives Sharma responsibility for building the company’s partner network and shaping how its voice agents are deployed for collections, customer service and onboarding. He will work directly with co-founder and CEO Sudarshan Kamath.

San Francisco-based Smallest AI develops speech recognition and synthesis models and supports deployment within a customer’s own infrastructure. Its systems cover more than 14 Indian languages as well as English.

Kamath said banking, financial services and insurance had become one of the company’s strongest business segments in India and required local leadership.

Sharma brings banking and payments experience

Sharma has spent more than 20 years in banking and financial services. At CRED, he led partnerships with banks and financial institutions; at Kotak Mahindra Bank, he was vice president and head of go-to-market for digital initiatives.

He previously worked at YES Bank across payments systems including UPI, wallets, the Bharat Bill Payment System and the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. His career also includes time at ICICI and, most recently, CashFlo.

Sharma said collections and service calls are areas where Indian banks need voice AI that works in customers’ languages while keeping sensitive data under their control.
