The planned Trump ASEAN visit drew criticism from Gabriela Women’s Party, which questioned the Philippine government’s welcome for the US president while travelers and commuters face reported flight cancellations and expected road closures.

Trump ASEAN visit and travel disruption

Gabriela cited reports of more than 100 flight cancellations, including 106 flights affected at Cebu Pacific. The group also pointed to expected road closures in Pasay City that could disrupt commuters and workers.

Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit from November 16 to 18, 2026. The group’s criticism was reported on October 27, ahead of the visit.

Group questions administration’s priorities

Gabriela Secretary General KJ Catequista questioned why the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was welcoming Trump while Filipinos bore the costs and disruption of his visit.

Catequista also accused Marcos of pursuing the proposed Pax Silica agreement to secure Washington’s backing and of prioritizing US interests. Gabriela criticized Trump’s foreign policy and human rights record, arguing that diplomatic relations should not come at the expense of accountability and Filipinos’ dignity.
