Visayas grid alerts were issued for October 27, 2026, as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) forecast peak demand above available power capacity amid plant outages and limited imports from Mindanao.
Visayas grid alerts cover evening hours
In its 7:30 a.m. advisory, NGCP scheduled a red alert from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and yellow alerts from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The grid operator estimated peak demand at 2,482 megawatts, against available capacity of 2,452 MW. A red alert means supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the grid’s regulating requirement. A yellow alert indicates the operating margin is insufficient to meet the grid’s contingency requirement.
Plant outages limit supply
NGCP said 30 plants were on forced outage and 16 were operating at reduced capacity, leaving a total of 861.2 MW unavailable to the grid.
The operator cited the unavailability of three large coal units: Therma Visayas Inc. 1 and 2, and KEPCO SPC Power Corporation Unit 1. Planned outages at some Mindanao plants also limited power imports to the Visayas.
