Mecca Pact talks in Tehran on October 26, 2026, ended with Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan agreeing to continue discussions on cooperation, particularly in peace and security. The visit aimed to prevent the West Asia war from resuming.

Mecca Pact talks bring officials to Tehran

Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said officials from the three Mecca Pact countries traveled to Iran as part of efforts to de-escalate the current crisis. It was their first joint visit to Tehran since the countries formed a defense alliance in Mecca in August.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman represented the kingdom, while Pakistan sent army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Turkey sent intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin. Iranian state media showed President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and national security council secretary Mohsen Rezaei attending the meetings.

Saudi Arabia faces Houthi attacks

The talks came after weeks of attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Iran-allied Houthis. A missile strike at Riyadh’s international airport killed 13 people.

Egypt also authorized military support for Saudi Arabia. The four countries at the Tehran meetings agreed to continue talks, although no date for a further meeting was announced.
