India’s statistics ministry has proposed adding questions on women entrepreneurs, electricity sources and fixed-asset investment to the India enterprise survey for 2027–28. The next round of the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises, or ASUSE, is proposed to run from April 2027 to March 2028.

India enterprise survey to follow financial year

The survey is moving from a calendar-year schedule to a financial-year reference period, the ministry said on October 26, 2026. The change is intended to align ASUSE with other enterprise surveys and make its data more useful for national accounts.

New questions cover business challenges and investment

For the first time, the survey would capture gender-specific constraints faced by women in operating and managing their establishments. The ministry expects the information to inform policy discussions on women’s economic participation.

Questions on electricity sources would provide a broader view of energy use. A new fixed-asset investment question would cover a longer reference period than the existing survey schedule.

The survey will also include provisions to identify handloom, powerloom and handicraft establishments, following a request from the textiles ministry.
