The Philippines’ weather agency Pagasa may declare the start of the Amihan season in the coming days, although no official declaration had been made as of October 26, 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Northeasterly winds affecting extreme northern Luzon are a precursor to the northeast monsoon.
  • Pagasa cautioned that seas off extreme northern Luzon could be moderate to rough over the next 24 hours.

Amihan season remains under observation

Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda-Carpio said in the agency’s 5 p.m. update that it was monitoring the northeasterly windflow and could officially declare the season in the next few days.

The windflow was expected to bring light rain or drizzle to Batanes and the Babuyan Islands on Monday night. Light rain was also possible in Batanes, Cagayan and Ilocos Norte on Tuesday.

Rain forecast across the Philippines

For Tuesday, October 27, Pagasa said brief rains were possible in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon because of localized thunderstorms. The chance of rain was expected to be high in eastern Luzon by evening.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms were also possible in parts of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi because of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, although rainfall could lessen during the day. No gale warning was issued, but Castañeda-Carpio urged caution at sea in extreme northern Luzon.
