Uttar Pradesh’s chief electoral officer said on October 26, 2026, that election officials were investigating unusual names in the Uttar Pradesh voter list following Legislative Council elections.
Uttar Pradesh voter list errors and forged slips
The chief electoral officer said officials were examining why the mistakes occurred and taking action to prevent a recurrence. The office separately said forged voter slips had circulated online and that the person responsible for the forgery would be dealt with under the law.
The office asked media outlets and the public to verify information shared on social media with the relevant officials before presenting it as fact.
Political reaction and election timetable
The chief electoral officer acknowledged that an unusual name on the roll was a mistake and rejected an allegation of caste discrimination raised by Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate criticized the electoral office’s social media response.
Polling for five graduates’ constituencies and six teachers’ constituencies was held on October 23.
