Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared 2027 the PIDS Golden Jubilee Year, marking the 50th anniversary of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies.

PIDS Golden Jubilee plans

Proclamation 1448, signed on September 18, recognizes the institute’s contributions to evidence-based policymaking, socioeconomic planning, policy evaluation and research dissemination.

The proclamation calls on national government agencies to support anniversary activities and encourages local governments, nongovernmental organizations and the private sector to participate. Celebrations are planned throughout 2027, with more activities and programs to be announced in the coming months.

PIDS will mark its 50th anniversary on September 26, 2027.

The institute’s research role

Created in 1977 under Presidential Decree 1201, PIDS was tasked with developing a research program to support national development plans and policies. Its mandate also includes linking government with research institutions, facilitating research for the government and maintaining a repository of economic research information.
