Advantech AFE-E630, an embedded industrial edge system used in energy and other applications, has received a cybersecurity Attestation of Conformity from DEKRA. The assessment found that the system’s security functions met the relevant Security Level 2 requirements within the scope tested.
Key Takeaways
- DEKRA assessed the device against the 2019 version of IEC 62443-4-2, a standard for industrial component security.
- The attestation does not replace a security assessment of the wider system in which the device is installed.
- The assessment is not a conformity assessment under the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
What the Advantech AFE-E630 assessment covers
DEKRA evaluated the AFE-E630 as a host device across seven foundational security areas. These cover access and authentication, control of use, system integrity and confidentiality, data-flow restrictions, incident response and availability.
Advantech says the system can handle field data and device communications in applications including energy storage management, microgrid control and industrial edge gateways.
The result gives integrators evidence about the functions assessed in the component. It does not resolve every cybersecurity risk in a deployment: those risks depend on how the wider system is designed and connected.
How the result relates to EU rules
The EU Cyber Resilience Act covers matters including secure product design, vulnerability handling and maintenance after products enter the market. Since September 11, 2026, manufacturers have been required to report actively exploited vulnerabilities and severe security incidents affecting products within the law’s scope.
Manufacturers considering the EU market need to establish whether their products are covered and which requirements and assessment route apply. An IEC 62443-4-2 assessment can inform a review of existing technical evidence, but it does not establish conformity with the EU act.
Next milestone
The Cyber Resilience Act’s main requirements are scheduled to apply from December 11, 2027.
